Job summary

Smarsh is seeking a Database Engineer for the ProArchive Archive Search team to design, scale, and maintain the data infrastructure powering our platform. You will contribute to real-time data pipelines, optimize performance, and ensure secure, reliable operations supporting compliance needs.

You will collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Site Reliability to tackle complex challenges, embracing an AI-first mindset and modern DevOps practices to boost developer productivity.

Qualifications

• Experience in private cloud-based environments and distributed systems.
• Ability to design logical and physical data models with schema relationships.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, including indexing.
• Understand data security practices: encryption, access controls, auditing.
• Troubleshoot high-availability systems and production issues.
• Plan for data growth and scale infrastructure for future needs.
• Collaborative, open to feedback and cross-functional work.
• Familiar with modern development practices and Agile methods.
• Strong communication of progress and challenges.
• Ability to adapt to evolving requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support and empower a collaborative, inclusive team culture.
• Design and implement scalable data solutions with engineers and stakeholders.
• Participate in on-call rotation for reliability and incident response.
• Define technical requirements, timelines, and deliverables with Product/Engineering.
• Apply Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices to data infrastructure.
• Review code and database changes to reduce technical debt.
• Troubleshoot production issues to maintain availability and performance.
• Learn emerging technologies and assess their impact for Smarsh.
• Monitor database health using Splunk, Datadog, and Grafana.
