Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a senior database engineer to help shape and scale a new data warehousing product within the Redshift team. You will collaborate with customers on database design, usage patterns, and performance, contributing to a scalable cloud solution.

You will drive workload analysis, performance benchmarks, and troubleshooting, and you will influence the roadmap while communicating complex topics clearly to customers.

Qualifications

We are looking for senior database engineers that are passionate about data warehousing, and love to work with customers to help them with database design, usage patterns and performance.

We Expect Candidates To Be Able To:

• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of database or data warehouse systems internals including relational database design and distributed databases/MPP architectures
• Lead strategic data architecture & database design discussions with customers
• Drive and oversee workload analysis, performance benchmarking and troubleshooting efforts with customers in their environments
• Clearly communicate deep technical topics to customers
• Influence the engineering team roadmap towards building a product that is scalable, easy to use and build on, and addresses customer needs
• Conduct POC’s with customers in competitive situations
• Leverage good coding/scripting skills to automate tasks and improve workload analysis mechanisms

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field or equivalent
• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• Experience in writing complex, highly-optimized SQL queries across large datasets
• Knowledge of overall system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance in a database environment
• Experience with large-scale data analytics and data warehousing

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in software development, or experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent, or experience in external enterprise customer-facing role as a technical lead, with strong oral and written communication skills, presenting to both large and small audiences
