We are actively hiring a senior Software Engineer in the Query Processing team. This team drives the core query execution engine that powers Redshift’s performance and scalability.

Key job responsibilities

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will build systems that benefit Redshift clusters worldwide. You will lead the product vision by defining new features and architecture, translating complex requirements into deliverables that provide immense customer value. The role requires owning end‑to‑end deliverables—design, development, deployment, monitoring, and operations. You will mentor and help grow the engineering team.

A day in the life

Design and code solutions that improve software architecture efficiency, create metrics, implement automation, and resolve root causes of defects. Build high‑impact solutions for our large customer base, participate in design discussions and code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate cross‑functionally to drive business decisions and work in an environment that prioritizes the most important tasks.

About the team

Amazon Redshift’s execution engine team focuses on high scalability, performance, and extending engine capabilities. Team members bring expertise in query execution, optimization, high‑performance computing, architecture, compilers, distributed systems, and data lake technologies.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship)
• 5+ years of programming in at least one language such as C++, Java, or Rust
• Experience leading design or architecture of new or existing systems with reliability and scaling focus
• Experience mentoring, acting as a technical lead, or leading an engineering team
• Experience with distributed computing and enterprise‑wide systems
• Proficiency in a modern programming language for building mission‑critical, highly available systems

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations
• Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent
• Strong coding skills with emphasis on logic, data structures, algorithms, and problem‑solving
• Experience with distributed (multi‑tiered) system architecture
• Experience performing live system and core analysis using GDB

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
