Job description

Location: EST candidates
Position Type: Remote
Contract Length: 7 months


Position Overview:

Seeking a skilled database architect with a minimum of 5 years’ experience to work with an existing software development team on an ongoing project.

Required Skills:
  • 5 years – Experience architecting and administering enterprise-grade database systems, with at least 2 years focused on cloud-native database services in Azure

  • 5 years – Designing and implementing solutions using Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Cosmos DB

  • 5 years – Strong understanding of cloud-native design patterns, including statelessness, elasticity, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC)

  • 5 years – Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as ARM templates, Bicep, or Terraform for provisioning and managing database infrastructure

  • 5 years – Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Azure Monitor for integrating, orchestrating, and monitoring database workflows

  • 5 years – Deep understanding of data classification, masking, encryption, and role-based access control (RBAC) in Azure environments

  • 5 years – Experience supporting highly scrutinized, public-facing datasets (e.g., elections-related data or open data portals), including audit trail design

  • 5 years – Proven ability to implement and manage disaster recovery, high availability, and geo-replication strategies within Azure

  • 5 years – Experience developing logical and physical data models that meet performance and transparency requirements while preserving data provenance

  • 5 years – Proficiency with T-SQL for scripting, automation, and diagnostics, with a focus on automating repeatable processes

  • 5 years – Ability to evaluate data storage tradeoffs (e.g., performance vs. cost vs. governance constraints) in a pay-as-you-go cloud environment

  • 5 years – Experience participating in design reviews, security assessments, and data governance audits, especially involving oversight

  • 5 years – Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, including versioned schemas and integration of database change management into CI/CD pipelines

  • 5 years – Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing technical documentation for public or legal audiences

  • 5 years – Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and modern DevOps workflows

  • Bachelor’s degree – In Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field

Preferred Skills:

Microsoft certifications such as:

  • Azure Database Administrator Associate

  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert

  • DP-203 (Azure Data Engineer Associate)


Duties:
  • Design and implement cloud-native database solutions in Microsoft Azure to support modernization efforts

  • Ensure database solutions meet requirements for high availability, transparency, and auditability for public-facing data systems

  • Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and governance teams to architect resilient, scalable, and secure data platforms

  • Ensure data platforms comply with regulatory standards and public accountability requirements

  • Apply expertise in Azure data services to develop and maintain modern database environments

  • Utilize modern database lifecycle practices to support development and operations

  • Address challenges associated with managing high-profile and publicly scrutinized data sets
