Job summary

The University of Utah UIT Infrastructure & Operations is seeking a Database Administrator III to ensure the availability, performance, security, and reliability of enterprise database platforms in Salt Lake City, UT. Qualifications

Job Summary

Perform activities related to the administration, maintenance, and optimization of database environments, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability. Collaborate with team members, customers, and management to assess database capabilities, resolve complex issues, and support business objectives. Recognized as a highly skilled and proficient technical professional, this role is entrusted with critical systems and sensitive data that require sound technical expertise and strong decision-making. Independently performs complex, high-impact work under minimal supervision, exercising exceptional judgment to evaluate risks, prioritize competing demands, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions that protect the stability, integrity, and availability of enterprise database systems. About UIT: University Information Technology (UIT), the central IT service provider for the University of Utah, reports to the U’s Chief Information Officer and is responsible for many of the U’s shared IT services including the wired and wireless network; Campus Information Services (CIS) portal; UMail, telephone, and online collaboration; digital learning technologies; information security; software licensing; and a host of other IT systems and services. Database Administrator Responsibilities

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of enterprise database platforms. This role manages database monitoring, health checks, alert response, performance tuning, storage and capacity planning, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, encryption, user access controls, and audit compliance. The DBA partners closely with application teams and business stakeholders to provision databases, support ServiceNow requests, perform data refreshes, troubleshoot issues, and maintain service availability. Additionally, the position works on platform modernization initiatives through automation, cloud adoption, virtualization, and the implementation of database upgrades, patches, and vulnerability remediation to ensure a secure, efficient, and highly resilient database environment.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Database Administrator, III : Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
