Job summary

Spirit Halloween is seeking a Database Administrator II in New Jersey to manage SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure platforms. You will ensure reliability, optimize performance, and automate processes while supporting critical business systems.

The role requires 3–5 years of hands-on SQL Server experience, strong scripting ability with PowerShell and T-SQL, and a focus on security and recoverability in a fast-paced retail tech environment.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backups, recovery, security, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery technologies such as Always On, failover clustering, log shipping, replication, and backup-based recovery.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar scripting languages to automate administrative tasks, monitoring, reporting, and processes.
  • Ability to document procedures, mentor team members, manage competing priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server environments across development, QA, staging, and production in on‑premises and Azure cloud.
  • Configure, patch, upgrade, secure, and support database servers with backups and maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to performance, availability, storage, connectivity, failed jobs, and outages; provide root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize queries, indexing, and schema design for better performance.
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity.
  • Develop and enhance automation and monitoring using PowerShell and T-SQL for reporting and operations.
  • Lead DBA initiatives, migrations, upgrades, patching projects, documentation, and 24x7 on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

The Database Administrator II is responsible for the administration, performance, availability, and security of Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premise and Azure-based platforms. This role supports critical business systems by ensuring database reliability, optimizing performance, automating processes, and providing production support. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to operational excellence.

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server environments across development, QA, staging, and production systems in both on-premises and Azure cloud environments
  • Configure, patch, upgrade, secure, and support database servers while performing backups, recovery validation, release deployments, and scheduled maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues related to performance, availability, storage, connectivity, failed jobs, and system outages, providing end-to-end support and root cause analysis
  • Partner with development teams to optimize database performance through query tuning, schema design improvements, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis
  • Support and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring business continuity and compliance with recovery objectives
  • Develop and enhance automation, monitoring, reporting, and operational processes using PowerShell, T-SQL, and other scripting tools
  • Lead and contribute to DBA team initiatives, including migrations, upgrades, patching projects, documentation, technical mentoring, and participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent degree preferred, with Microsoft SQL Server or Azure certifications, a plus
  • Three to five years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience supporting production and non-production environments
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backups, recovery, security, performance tuning, and day-to-day operational support
  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping, replication, and backup-based recovery solutions
  • Experience supporting SQL Server ecosystem technologies such as SSIS, SSRS, SQL Agent, ETL processes, Azure SQL services, and database monitoring platforms
  • Proficiency with PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar scripting languages to automate administrative tasks, monitoring, reporting, and operational processes
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, storage, networking, compliance requirements, change management, incident management, and disaster recovery best practices
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills with the ability to document procedures, support stakeholders, manage competing priorities, mentor team members, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

The pay range reflects the potential base salary range for this role. Individual base pay is determined by various factors such as relevant experience and skills, and the scopeand responsibilities of the position.
