Job summary

Spencer’s and Spirit is seeking a Database Administrator II to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure platforms. The role emphasizes production support and automation to maintain high availability.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of MS SQL Server experience, including Always On/DR, PowerShell, and strong collaboration in a fast-paced retail tech setting.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of hands-on MS SQL Server administration experience.
• Experience with Always On, failover clustering, and disaster recovery technologies.
• Ability to document procedures and support stakeholders effectively.
• Proficiency in automating admin tasks and monitoring using scripting tools.

Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server environments across development, QA, staging, and production in on-premises and Azure.
• Configure, patch, upgrade, secure, and support database servers; perform backups and recovery validation.
• Troubleshoot performance, availability, storage, and connectivity issues; provide end-to-end support and RCA.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize queries, schema design, indexing, and execution plans.
• Support high availability and disaster recovery solutions and ensure business continuity.
• Develop automation, monitoring, and reporting using PowerShell, T-SQL, and other tools.
• Lead DBA initiatives and participate in 24x7 on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

The Database Administrator II is responsible for the administration, performance, availability, and security of Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premise and Azure-based platforms. This role supports critical business systems by ensuring database reliability, optimizing performance, automating processes, and providing production support. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to operational excellence.

• Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server environments across development, QA, staging, and production systems in both on-premises and Azure cloud environments
• Configure, patch, upgrade, secure, and support database servers while performing backups, recovery validation, release deployments, and scheduled maintenance activities
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues related to performance, availability, storage, connectivity, failed jobs, and system outages, providing end-to-end support and root cause analysis
• Partner with development teams to optimize database performance through query tuning, schema design improvements, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis
• Support and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring business continuity and compliance with recovery objectives
• Develop and enhance automation, monitoring, reporting, and operational processes using PowerShell, T-SQL, and other scripting tools
• Lead and contribute to DBA team initiatives, including migrations, upgrades, patching projects, documentation, technical mentoring, and participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent degree preferred, with Microsoft SQL Server or Azure certifications, a plus
• Three to five years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration experience supporting production and non-production environments
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, backups, recovery, security, performance tuning, and day-to-day operational support
• Experience with high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping, replication, and backup-based recovery solutions
• Experience supporting SQL Server ecosystem technologies such as SSIS, SSRS, SQL Agent, ETL processes, Azure SQL services, and database monitoring platforms
• Proficiency with PowerShell, T-SQL, or similar scripting languages to automate administrative tasks, monitoring, reporting, and operational processes
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, storage, networking, compliance requirements, change management, incident management, and disaster recovery best practices
• Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills with the ability to document procedures, support stakeholders, manage competing priorities, mentor team members, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

The pay range reflects the potential base salary range for this role. Individual base pay is determined by various factors such as relevant experience and skills, and the scopeand responsibilities of the position.
