Must Have Requirements
- 5+ years as a Database Administrator
- Deep technical expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (MS-SQL), including T-SQL, indexing, execution plans, and optimization.
- Hands-on experience with both on-premise and cloud-based database platforms (e.g., Azure SQL Database, SQL Server on IaaS)
- DEEP experience with troubleshooting Availability Groups
- Must be willing to work with customers
- Must be willing to create your own JIRA ticketsProficient in data modelling, schema normalization/denormalization, and capacity planning
- Experienced working in Azure Environments
Additional Requirements/Plusses
- Experience with cloud migration or hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of ETL processes, data warehousing, or data lake integration.
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines for database CI/CD.
- Exposure to monitoring and observability tools for database performance (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds, SQL Sentry).
Day to Day
A client of Insight Global is hiring for a contract-to-hire database administrator. This role requires deep hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server (MS‑SQL) across both on‑premises and cloud environments, with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability. The ideal candidate will be not only technically exceptional but also a strong communicator who can effectively engage with stakeholders across technical and non‑technical teams. You’ll be expected to clearly articulate, implement recommendations, influence decision‑making, and drive consensus on complex database design and performance matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and tune complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
- Implement solutions for data sharding, partitioning, archiving, and purging to manage.
- Work across on‑premise and cloud‑hosted database environments (e.g., SQL Server on VMs and Azure SQL) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Engage with cross‑functional stakeholders, translating technical findings into clear, actionable insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to integrate database improvements into the broader tech ecosystem.
- Monitor, diagnose, and resolve database performance issues proactively.
- Develop technical documentation and present findings to both technical and executive.
- Recommend and implement tools and automation to support database observability.
