Job summary

Appteon Inc. seeks a senior database engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable databases across AWS RDS environments. You will optimize SQL performance, model data, and lead migrations from legacy systems while coordinating with PMs and BI teams.

You will ensure security and compliance (NIST/FISMA), implement ETL processes, and support application development with data mapping and governance. Strong communication across teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• Experience: 10+ years with a Bachelor’s, 8+ years with a Master’s.
• AWS Database Specialty, Oracle OCP, or SQL Server equivalents.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable database models.
• Tune SQL performance and optimize storage and indexing.
• Create ETL components, procedures, and scripts.
• Collaborate with PMs and BAs to align DB structures with business needs.
• Migrate and integrate legacy systems through data mappings.
• Administer AWS RDS databases with security and compliance.
• Configure and secure VPCs for cross-environment DB access.
• Troubleshoot performance, access control, and security issues.
• Support developers with data mapping and integrity.
• Provide database support to help desk and project teams.
• Maintain documentation of schemas, procedures, and logic.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings offering DB solutions.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, NIST, and FISMA.

Job description

Duties And Essential Responsibilities

• – Design, develop, and maintain database models, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
• – Optimize database performance through advanced SQL query tuning , indexing strategies, and storage optimization techniques.
• – Write custom scripts, stored procedures, triggers, and ETL components to streamline data processes.
• – Work closely with Project Managers and Business Analysts to define and refine database structures, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
• – Develop data mappings for projects involving legacy system modernization, ensuring seamless migration and integration.
• – Administer and maintain databases on AWS Relational Database Service (RDS), ensuring security and compliance.
• – Implement and support virtual private cloud (VPC) configurations and secure networking for database access across applications environments.
• – Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, access control, and security vulnerabilities.
• – Support developers in mapping data for application development, ensuring data integrity and efficiency.
• – Provide database-related technical support and troubleshooting assistance to the help desk and project teams.
• – Maintain detailed technical documentation for database schemas, stored procedures, and business logic.
• – Participate in meetings with stakeholders, offering database solutions and best practices.
• – Ensure database activities comply with data governance, NIST, and FISMA standards.

Technical Skills & Expertise

• – 5-6 years of progressive experience in system design and database development.
• – Expertise in Oracle, AWS RDS, and SQL-based databases.
• – Proficiency in ETL processes, data modeling, and database architecture.
• – Hands-on experience with AWS cloud-based database solutions and VPC integration.
• – Strong SQL scripting, performance tuning, and query optimization skills.
• – Ability to analyze and improve database performance, resolving inefficiencies and scalability challenges.
• – Experience working on legacy system modernization projects, designing and implementing data migration strategies.
• – Strong understanding of change control processes and testing methodologies for database modifications.
• – Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and translate business requirements into database solutions.

Minimum Education & Certifications

• – Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field from an accredited university or college.
• – Experience Requirement: 10+ years of IT experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 8+ years of IT experience with a Master’s degree.
• – Preferred certifications: AWS Database Specialty, Oracle OCP, or SQL Server (MCSA/MCSE) equivalents.
• – Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
