Ampcus Inc. is seeking an experienced Database Administrator 2 to support a migration from an end-of-life hosted platform to a new hosted platform in Richmond, VA. You will manage SQL Server environments, perform migrations, and ensure post‑migration validation.

The role covers backup/recovery, incident response, performance tuning, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to maintain production stability. Oracle experience is beneficial but not required.

Job Title: Database Administrator 2

Location(s): Richmond, VA

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator 2 to support a database migration initiative involving the movement of existing databases from an end-of-life hosted platform to a new hosted platform. The ideal candidate will have strong Microsoft SQL Server administration experience, hands‑on database migration expertise, and the ability to perform post‑migration validation and troubleshooting.

This role will primarily support a SQL Server environment running on a dedicated SQL performance platform, with SQL Server versions ranging from 2008 through 2019. The DBA will provide day‑to‑day break/fix support, database administration, backup and recovery management, system validation, and operational support while assisting with ongoing database migration activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the migration of existing SQL Server databases from an end‑of‑life hosted platform to a new hosted platform.
• Perform database migration, validation, and post‑migration testing to ensure databases are functioning correctly in the new environment.
• Provide day‑to‑day break/fix and incident response support for the SQL Server environment.
• Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server databases across multiple versions, including SQL Server 2008-2019.
• Perform database architecture, configuration, performance troubleshooting, and operational support.
• Manage database backup and recovery processes, including production database backup, restore, and recovery activities.
• Execute database restores and recovery procedures when required.
• Support database updates, maintenance activities, and other operational changes.
• Troubleshoot database‑related issues and identify root causes in a production environment.
• Validate database connectivity, functionality, performance, and application dependencies following migrations or infrastructure changes.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and project teams during migration and remediation activities.
• Provide operational coverage and support to help free the dedicated DBA from day‑to‑day production support so they can focus on project and migration work.
• Document database changes, migration activities, troubleshooting steps, and operational procedures.
• Provide support for a small Oracle database footprint as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server database administration.
• Experience migrating databases between hosted platforms, servers, or infrastructure environments.
• Experience performing post‑migration database and systems validation.
• Strong understanding of SQL Server architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with database backup, restore, and recovery management.
• Hands‑on experience backing up and restoring production databases.
• Experience providing database break/fix and incident response support in a production environment.
• Experience working with multiple SQL Server versions, preferably including SQL Server 2008 through 2019.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in an operational environment while supporting concurrent migration projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Oracle database administration.
• Experience supporting SQL Server environments hosted on dedicated database/performance hardware platforms.
• Experience with end‑of‑life hardware replacement or database infrastructure migration projects.
• Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization.
• Experience supporting high‑availability or production‑critical database environments.
• Familiarity with enterprise incident, change, backup, and recovery processes.

Primary Focus

The primary focus of this position is Microsoft SQL Server administration and support, with an emphasis on database migration, production support, troubleshooting, backup/recovery, and post‑migration validation. Oracle experience is beneficial but not required.
