Job Description

Job Title: Database Administrator

Department: Software Development

Reports to: Director of Software Development

FLSA: Exempt

Hours: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (extended hours when requested)

Location: Remote

Job Summary

The Database Administrator will be engaged in all facets of the database life cycle from project inception to maintenance. Establishes and monitors backup, data recovery and data transfer plans. Maintains the highest reliability, performance and security possible on databases in support of 24/7 services. Tunes database configuration for optimum performance. Keeps well informed on technical developments with best-practice database administration techniques and provides technical guidance to all stakeholders. Supports the development team in effective schema design and deploying features. Provides Network Operations with requirements for new projects and existing systems. Oversees support and auditing of user accounts and security rights. Proficiently reads and writes TSQL.

This position will require on-call responsibilities for the duties or functions routinely performed. Additionally, maintenance activities that affect service availability routinely require work outside of regular business hours. Infrequent travel to off-site hosting locations or training centers may be required.

Essential Job Tasks Additional Duties May Be Assigned.

  • Review and manage resources to maximize up time
  • Monitor and administer tuning to optimize database performance
  • Maintain and execute backup and restore functions and procedures
  • Provide team-oriented support to Software Development and Network Operations teams
  • Review and implement database changes including proficiently writing T-SQL
  • Management, maintenance, and administration of reporting and analytical tool services
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of SQL tools, utilities and processes

  • Computer - Knowledge of basic computer processes, including word processing, web browsing, and Microsoft Office, including Basic Microsoft Excel.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field with at least two (2) years Microsoft SQL Server experience and relevant Microsoft Certifications preferred.


Equipment Used

  • Office equipment includes computers, telephones, and printers.
  • Software used to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Blackboard, SQL Server, and internal database software.
  • Secure and reliable internet is required for this position.
