Responsibilities

  • Liaise with vendors and IT staff for problem resolution and system improvements.
  • Maintain configuration management and documentation.
  • Support Unix/RedHat, Windows Server, and cloud environments (Azure/AWS).
  • Monitor application performance and work with developers to implement fixes.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and incident response.
  • Manage and monitor all installed systems to ensure availability.
  • Contribute to the design of information and operational support systems.
  • Report system vulnerabilities and remediation progress.

Job description

Our client is seeking a Database Administrator to support the IT Service Management effort for USTRANSCOM at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. This position is part of the USTC Managed Information Technology Services (MITS) contract, which provides strategic, technical, and program management guidance to facilitate the operations and modernization of the combatant command’s infrastructure, systems, and applications. The Database Administrator will support the USTC Command, Control, Communications & Cyber Systems Directorate (TCJ6) by providing database administration, maintenance, and optimization for Command and Control (C2) and office information business applications. The role involves operating, maintaining, and administering database servers, hardware, and software in support of network management platforms, ensuring system availability, performance, security, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in Unix/RedHat environments, cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, and production environments, along with strong troubleshooting skills and relevant certifications. An active Secret Clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Administer, maintain, and optimize database servers, hardware, and software for Command and Control (C2) and business applications
  • Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools
  • Monitor and ensure high availability and performance of systems and infrastructure
  • Implement and manage data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and redundancy strategies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database and system issues, providing 2nd and 3rd level support
  • Participate in the design, documentation, and operational support of information systems
  • Remediate system vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with security standards
  • Liaise with vendors and IT personnel for problem resolution and system improvements
  • Maintain system configuration, compliance, and documentation
  • Support and troubleshoot Unix/RedHat, Microsoft Windows Server, and cloud environments (Azure/AWS)
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to incidents as required
  • Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure to proactively ensure the highest levels of availability
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
  • System vulnerability remediation and reporting
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience, or Master’s degree, or 6 years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator
  • Hands-on experience with database standards and end user applications
  • Strong knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL
  • Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding
  • Experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools
  • Familiarity with programming languages API
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Unix/RedHat environments
  • Competency in Microsoft Windows Server 2012/2016 installation, service design, and support
  • Experience with Azure or AWS Cloud Environments
  • Experience with Linux and production environments
  • Solid troubleshooting and end-to-end problem management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of authentication protocols (LDAP, Kerberos, Active Directory)
  • Conceptual knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS)
  • One of these IAT Level II certifications: Security+, CECCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, SSCP
  • Computing Environment (CE) certification for technical area (e.g., Splunk, Cisco, McAfee, Microsoft, Linux, Solaris)
  • Must have active Secret Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Availability for on-call work on a recurring basis
  • Desirable: MA/MS degree, 6+ years of experience, DoD TS/SCI clearance, ITIL Foundations (v3 or higher), MCP, CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+, AWS, Azure certifications
