Job summary

South Carolina Department of Public Health is seeking a data-focused professional to support the Data Modernization Initiative. You will work with epidemiologists and IT staff, developing R and Python scripts, and supporting REDCap projects for routine and ad hoc needs.

Role includes data validation for a new Electronic Disease Surveillance System and may require travel for emergencies. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is minimum; programming knowledge is preferred.

This position supports the agency's Data Modernization Initiative (DMI) efforts by increasing and improving data availability and access to data for decision making. Additionally, this position will assist epidemiologists and collaborate with IT staff in developing and deploying RedCap projects as needs arise. This position also participates in the development and roll‑out of a new and more robust Electronic Disease Surveillance System (EDSS), including data validation.

Participate in data management and validation efforts for a new Electronic Disease Surveillance System (EDSS).

Develop, modify, maintain, and run R and python scripts to prepare data for analysis and visualization and respond to data requests. Crosstrains staff to ensure sustainability of these functions.

Develop and support RedCap projects for routine or ad hoc needs.

Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned, including required travel if requested, and responds as directed during emergencies which may occur outside normal work hours, and travel if requested.

State Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor's degree and professional experience related to the position.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, mathematics, data science, or a closely related field and relevant working experience is preferred. Knowledge of programming languages is preferred.
