Job summary

Beaufort County is seeking a senior data engineer to design, develop, and optimize data systems, database solutions, and workflow automation for the Treasurer's Office. You will ensure data integrity, performance, and accessibility while delivering scalable reporting and BI capabilities.

The role leads a data team, collaborates with county departments, oversees dashboards and FOIA data requests, and establishes data governance and documentation to support informed decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field; or eight (8) years of equivalent experience.
  • Requires at least five (5) years of experience in database development, ETL processes, or data engineering, with advanced knowledge of SQL, database management, business intelligence, automation, and related technologies necessary to develop, optimize, and support enterprise data solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the development and maintenance of operational and strategic reports.
  • Oversees the design and implementation of dashboards, data visualizations, and performance metrics.
  • Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and security of data across financial systems and reporting platforms.
  • Establishes and maintains scalable data management processes and reporting standards.
  • Manages Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests related to departmental data.
  • Develops and maintains data governance policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Monitors reporting workflows to ensure timely, accurate, and reliable information for decision-making.

Ensures the integrity, performance, and accessibility of data by developing database systems, ETL processes, reporting solutions, and business intelligence tools while promoting the Office's vision, mission, values, and culture.

Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field; or eight (8) years of equivalent experience.

Special Certifications And Licenses
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
