Job summary

The City of New York Department of Transportation seeks a Data Scientist to join the DOSA team within RIS. You will develop data management systems, create data products, and analyze data to inform Vision Zero and Bus Priority initiatives.

The ideal candidate has strong SQL, GIS, Python skills, and experience with large datasets and geospatial analysis. The role supports hybrid work from 55 Water Street, with a 35-hour work week.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field (or Doctorate) with one year of supervisory/research experience for higher levels.
• Experience manipulating large datasets with SQL, GIS, and Python or similar languages.
• Strong analytical and communication skills with ability to present data outputs to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform research and analysis studies related to transportation safety to inform policy and programs.
• Provide analyses and data products for senior staff to inform Vision Zero and Bus Priority policy.
• Collaborate with staff to conduct research and present data outputs to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build predictive machine learning models and conduct ad-hoc data analysis.
• Develop new data products to address evolving operational needs and support data-driven decision-making.
