Job description

The Legal Technology Solutions Team assists other legal teams by providing effective technical solutions, to highly complex and real-world impacting problems. We manage the systems that power law enforcement response, transparency reporting, and other front-line outreach and compliance functions. Our team is looking for an experienced data scientist with a focus in operations and a natural curiosity for internal systems. As our primary data emissary, you'll be working on reporting and using data to forecast, build insights, and draw correlations between our external and internal products. You will also be expected to observe beyond just the raw data to understand our users’ behaviors and interactions, and to explain those behaviors to stakeholders. You will be working with some of the brightest minds in the industry, and you'll get an opportunity to solve some of the most challenging Legal process problems on the web and mobile Internet, at a scale that few companies can match. If you relish the opportunity to leverage data to help drive the direction of products that impact the lives of over 1 billion people every day, this role may be aligned for you!

Data Scientist, Legal Responsibilities:

  • A highly skilled data scientist providing mentorship, guidance, and career development to the members of the team
  • Drive technical development and project management of products and systems for various teams within Legal
  • Apply expertise in Machine Learning, AI, statistics, and data exploration and analysis in leveraging internal operations data to solve critical problems for multiple legal teams
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Software Engineers in order to shape roadmaps with a balance of technical rigor and strategic considerations
  • Educate partners, stakeholders, and leadership on results of data investigation related to user behavior and long-term trends

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics or a related quantitative field
  • 6+ years’ experience analyzing data stored in various DBMS (MySQL, Oracle) or in Hive
  • 6+ years’ experience in the design, deployment, and maintenance of large data pipelines and data warehouses
  • Software development experience in Python or other scripting languages (PHP, Perl, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of statistics (e.g., hypothesis testing, regression) and experimental design
  • Demonstrable experience in applying Machine Learning algorithms to solve real-world business problems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related quantitative field
  • Demonstrable experience in communicating data-driven insights to front-line and leadership teams
  • Demonstrable experience in proactively initiating projects starting with data exploration and driving said projects to completion
