Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a highly skilled data science professional to lead analysis and development of algorithms and software for clinical and basic research problems. The role emphasizes AI, ML, NLP, LLMs, and other advanced computational methods applied to biomedical data.

The position supports diverse projects within the Biostatistics and Data Science Core, requiring experience with complex health data and reproducible analytic solutions. Collaboration across teams is essential.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with demonstrated experience in data analysis and scientific software development.
• Broadly defined areas of bioinformatics and data analysis are acceptable.
• Experience in biomedical research computing is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and develops formalisms, algorithms and software for applications in biomedical research.
• Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems.
• Oversees development, testing and revision of programs in a multidisciplinary bioinformatics team.
• Trains users and staff in analyzing, defining and resolving computational problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under broad direction to provide and oversee the analysis and development of algorithms and software for clinical and/or basic research problems. Oversees and participates in programs to impact data acquisition, management, and analysis in basic, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials.

This position supports advanced data science and computational research across multiple projects within the Biostatistics and Data Science Core (BDSC). The role emphasizes artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, large language models (LLMs), and other emerging computational methods applied to clinical and biomedical research. Experience working with complex health care data, high dimensional bioinformatics data, and multimodal omics data, as well as developing reproducible analytic or AI based solutions, is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required

• Education

PhD In Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field or

Master’s Degree M.S. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field or

Bachelor’s Degree B.S. with demonstrated experience in broadly defined areas of bioinformatics

• Experience

2 years of post‑graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development with PhD

4 years of post‑graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development with Master’s degree

6 years of post‑graduation experience in data analysis and/or scientific software development with Bachelor’s degree
