Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Biostatistics Consultant to provide advanced statistical consultation for faculty, staff, and students across clinical and translational research projects within the Biostatistics and Data Science Core (BDSC).

The role involves clinical trials, observational studies, and analyses using EHR, claims, registries, and real-world data. Experience with markets like MarketScan, TriNetX, Epic Cosmos or similar platforms is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in biostatistics or related discipline, or MPH with a concentration in biostatistics.
  • 3 years experience in statistical consulting in biomedical or health care environment.
  • Working knowledge of SAS, SPSS or other major statistical package and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation including design of experiments, data analysis, interpretation and reporting.
  • Writes statistical portions of manuscripts and addresses revisions.
  • Assists with client data organization and statistical computations.
  • Provides graphical and tabular representations of results.
  • Develops and maintains in-house statistical programs.
  • Collaborates with investigators in grant development including statistical design.

JOB SUMMARY

Works under general direction to provide advanced statistical consultation for faculty, staff, and students. This position supports statistical design, analysis, interpretation, and reporting across a broad range of clinical and translational research projects within the Biostatistics and Data Science Core (BDSC). The role involves clinical trials, prospective and observational studies, and research using electronic health record, administrative claims, registry, and other real‑world data. Experience with clinical trials, machine learning, and large scale electronic health data sources such as MarketScan, TriNetX, Epic Cosmos, or similar platforms is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
  • Education
    Master's Degree in biostatistics or related discipline, or MPH with a concentration in biostatistics
  • Experience
    3 years experience in statistical consulting with preference given to experience working in biomedical or health care environment and
    Requires working knowledge of SAS, SPSS or other major statistical package (S+, R, etc.) and Microsoft Office (ACCESS and EXCEL)
JOB DUTIES
  • Collaborates with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation including design of experiments of survey, analysis of data, interpretation of results and preparation of reports.
  • Writes statistical portion of manuscript based on results of analysis and address manuscript revisions based on reviewer's comments.
  • Assists client data organization.
  • Performs statistical computations.
  • Provides graphical and tabular representations.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies programs for in‑house use.
  • Collaborates with investigators in grant development including statistical design of studies and preparation of statistical portion of grant proposal.
  • Performs non‑statistical components of consulting such as providing analogous examples and explanations using non‑technical terminology, and helping researchers formulate and clarify research issues.
  • Visits client's work field whenever possible to establish rapport and to become familiar with and interested in client's research and data.
  • May supervise biostatistical consultants and/or data entry operators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
