Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a Data Scientist III to lead the analysis and development of algorithms and software for clinical and basic research problems. Qualifications

  • PhD or MS in a relevant field with research in data analysis or software development.
  • Strong background in data analysis and scientific software development.
  • Experience in bioinformatics and biomedical data is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes and develops formalisms, algorithms and software for applications in biomedical research.
  • Develops and maintains software tools and infrastructure for resolving specific problems.
  • Oversees the development, testing and revision of programs in a team with diverse bioinformatics expertise.
  • Trains users and other personnel in analyzing, defining and resolving computational problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, (Bio)statistics, (Bio)mathematics, (Bio)statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field

JOB SUMMARY

Works under broad direction to provide and oversee the analysis and development of algorithms and software for clinical and/or basic research problems. Oversees and participates in programs to impact data acquisition, management, and analysis in basic, translational, and clinical research, including clinical trials.

This position supports advanced data science and computational research across multiple projects within the Biostatistics and Data Science Core (BDSC). The role emphasizes artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, large language models (LLMs), and other emerging computational methods applied to clinical and biomedical research. Experience working with complex health care data, high dimensional bioinformatics data, and multimodal omics data, as well as developing reproducible analytic or AI based solutions, is highly desirable.
