Job summary

WOOD Federal Solutions, Inc. seeks a Data Scientist, Level 1 at Fort Meade, Maryland to transform complex data into clear, actionable insights. Design and prototype machine learning, statistical, graph-based, and data-mining algorithms to analyze diverse datasets.

Report findings and build production-ready analytics for analyst workflows. Collaborate with SMEs to convert qualitative analyses into quantitative forms, and implement prototype algorithms within production frameworks to accelerate

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, OR operations research, engineering or computer science.
• Four years of experience analyzing datasets and developing analytics; two years programming with data analysis software such as R, Python, SAS, or MATLAB.
• Master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience, plus one year of programming with R, Python, SAS, or MATLAB.
• Eight years of experience may substitute for Bachelor’s degree plus two years of programming experience.

Responsibilities

• Produce data visualizations that provide insight into dataset structure and meaning.
• Collaborate with SMEs to identify information in raw data and develop scripts to extract it from data formats.
• Develop feature vectors from SME input for analytic development and testing.
• Translate customer goals into quantitative formulations coded into prototypes.
• Develop statistical, machine learning, and heuristic techniques for descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.
• Develop statistical tests to support data-driven recommendations.

Education

Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, operations research, and engineering or computer science

Master's degree may substitute for two years of experience

In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, four additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a total of eight years of relevant experience
