Position Summary

Under supervision, supports the advancement of Dataworks’ capabilities in deploying data science and machine learning tools in projects, platforms, and products. Supports the design of reusable data science assets and stays current with the latest methods and tools for large-scale, complex problems. Applies descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive, and ensemble modeling, statistical techniques, and database tools in analyzing complex business situations. Provides recommendations based on data science methods and machine learning practices, working alongside peer data scientists.

Responsibilities
  • Support data science innovation, define, and build the Dataworks organization, assisting senior data scientists in delivering key initiatives.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, acting as a translator between IT, business, software engineers, and data engineers.
  • Contribute to technical standards for data science and machine learning, including designing reusable data assets.
  • Work with large datasets and complex analytical problems, applying advanced methods.
  • Support the development and deployment of solutions from concept to production, using current technologies to derive insights and recommendations.
  • Participate in code development and small-scale deployment support daily.
  • Understand business and technical problems at a high level.
  • Explore data and develop models to address core business challenges, inventing new approaches as needed.
  • Help scale solutions from laptop to cluster scale, standardizing and industrializing approaches.
  • Deliver value rapidly, collaborating across diverse teams and external partners.
  • Follow best practices for reusability, creating accessible patterns, templates, and codebases.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Background in computer science, data science, machine learning, AI, statistics, or related fields.
  • Experience designing and deploying large-scale technical solutions that provide ongoing value.
  • Familiarity with building and deploying production systems using modern data science methods.
  • Ability to support dispersed teams and troubleshoot technical challenges.
  • Proven ability to support technical projects under tight deadlines.
  • Pragmatic, engineering mindset focused on performance and impact.
  • Experience working with distributed teams, version control, and code reviews.
  • Strong theoretical foundation in data science concepts.
  • Knowledge of modeling techniques, supported by advanced research.
  • Understanding of mathematical primitives like Linear Algebra and Vector Calculus.
  • Experience with agile and devops practices, including CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with tools and languages like SKLearn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Python, Scala, Java, Spark, Kafka, CPLEX, Gurobi, etc.
Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of experience, or Master’s degree in a related quantitative field.

Minimum Experience

Strong knowledge in data science and machine learning, including end-to-end analysis, data gathering, and presentation. Understanding of the transportation industry, with excellent communication skills.

Domicile and Work Location

This role can be based anywhere in the U.S., with remote work possible.
