Job summary

SMS group USA is seeking a Data Scientist to blend machine learning with deep process understanding. You will work with process engineers and domain experts to translate metallurgical and production knowledge into robust models, enhance process models with data-driven techniques, and deliver production-ready solutions.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in data science, ML, statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• Proven experience taking AI/ML solutions into production environments.
• Ability to understand a problem domain and translate that understanding into models with engineers and domain experts.
• Strong Python, SQL, Git, code review, and containerization knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Partner with process engineers, metallurgists, and domain experts to understand underlying processes and data.
• Enhance existing process models with data-driven techniques and physics-informed approaches.
• Design and implement hybrid models combining first-principles sub-models with machine learning.
• Develop virtual/soft sensors to estimate hard-to-measure quantities.
• Own data science problems end to end: scoping, data analysis, feature engineering, modeling, validation, and deployment.
• Monitor model performance, diagnose drift, and retrain as conditions change.
