Job summary

SMS group Inc. is seeking a Data Scientist who combines strong machine learning expertise with a deep understanding of industrial processes.

You will collaborate with process engineers and domain experts to translate process know-how into model structures, connect raw signals to physical behavior, and develop hybrid models that preserve physics while learning from data. You will own data science problems end to end—from scoping and data analysis to feature engineering, validation, and deployment

Qualifications

• Master's degree in data science, ML, statistics or related quantitative field, or 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Proven experience deploying AI/ML solutions to production environments.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers and domain experts to incorporate process understanding into models.
• Strong software development practices: Python, SQL, Git, code review, container technologies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialists.
• Ability to plan over long horizons and coordinate work packages.
• Willingness to work on-site and travel to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with process engineers and domain experts to understand underlying processes and data.
• Translate process knowledge into model structures and features; design hybrid models (gray-box, physics-informed).
• Develop virtual/soft sensors to estimate hard-to-measure quantities.
• Own data science problems end to end: scoping, analysis, feature engineering, modeling, validation, deployment.
