We are seeking a highly engaged and passionate Data Scientist to advocate for the benefits of advanced analytics and machine learning within the environmental sector. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, highly technical, comfortable in a collaborative team environment, and adept at navigating a constantly evolving landscape. A natural curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning are essential. Data Scientists at SWCA play a crucial role in implementing machine learning and analytical techniques within SWCA's business lines. This position involves collaborating with technology teams, environmental scientists, and project managers working on internal and external projects. You will focus on deploying production-ready applications and modeling solutions, working closely with various teams to ensure seamless integration and functionality.

This is a full-time, regular, salaried, benefits eligible role with the flexibility to work remotely within the U.S.

What you will accomplish

  • Collaborate with project teams to identify opportunities for leveraging data analysis and machine learning.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Develop and deploy custom data models and algorithms for environmental data sets, including traditional techniques , deep learning, and large language models .
  • Partner with our geospatial services team to integrate analytics into deliverables.
  • Work with the application development team to implement enterprise-wide solutions using Python and GitHub.
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and accuracy.
  • Engage with the greater technology team to incorporate data analysis into our technology delivery.
  • Seek feedback from stakeholders and peers, communicating proactively across groups.
  • Mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development, marketing techniques, and business strategies.
  • Collaborate with corporate finance and business teams to build models and analyses that enhance company profitability.

Experience and qualifications for success

Qualified candidates will demonstrate an appropriate combination of the following additional competencies and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field. A Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and version control using GitHub.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development.
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (Python, SQL, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Experience with traditional machine learning techniques , deep learning, and large language models .
  • Knowledge of computer vision techniques and approaches applicable to various image capture platforms.
  • Understanding of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, etc.) and their applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.

An employee in this corporate based position can expect a pay rate of $79,747/year - $104,457/year . Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
