Job summary

KBR, Inc. is seeking a Data Scientist in the United States (Virginia, McLean area) to develop and deploy NLP and ML solutions.

You will work on high-end engineering and tech projects for national security with on-site responsibilities and minimal travel. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing models with PyTorch/TensorFlow/Keras, leveraging SpaCy, Gensim, NLTK, and Hugging Face Transformers, and performing advanced statistical analysis on various metrics.

Qualifications

  • Experience with NLP tasks using Python libraries (SpaCy, Gensim or NLTK).
  • Deep learning models with PyTorch, TensorFlow or Keras.
  • Experience with Hugging Face Transformers for NLP and ML tasks.
  • Experience creating ML models for text classification and topic modeling.
  • Ability to query and analyze large datasets with SQL.
  • Experience leveraging GPUs for accelerated computing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deploy advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions using Python libraries such as SpaCy, Gensim, and NLTK.
  • Design, train, evaluate, and optimize machine learning and deep learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras.
  • Leverage the Hugging Face Transformers library and model hub to develop state-of-the‑art language models and text analytics solutions.
  • Create and maintain machine learning models that perform text classification, topic modeling, information extraction, and related NLP tasks.
  • Conduct advanced statistical analysis on personnel, intelligence, and performance metrics to identify trends, relationships, and actionable insights.
  • Utilize SQL to query, transform, and analyze large datasets from multiple data sources.
  • Leverage GPU-accelerated computing environments to improve model training, inference, and large‑scale analytical processing.

Standard Qualifications:
Required:
  • Active TS/SCI with a Polygraph Minimum of 10 years experience
  • Experience or academic exposure performing NLP tasks using Python-based NLP packages such as SpaCy, Gensim, or NLTK.
  • Experience or academic exposure with deep learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
  • Experience utilizing the Hugging Face Transformers library and model hub for NLP and machine learning applications.
  • Experience creating machine learning models that perform text classification and topic modeling.
  • Experience using SQL to access, manipulate, and analyze large datasets.
  • Experience leveraging GPUs for accelerated computing and conducting advanced statistical analysis on various metrics.
Desired:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience tuning large language models (LLMs) on custom data sets.
  • Experience with cloud computing development and architectures.
  • Experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot to build backend applications and REST APIs.
Basic Compensation:

$177,200 to $216,500 This range is for the VA area only The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
