Job summary

2nd Order Solutions (2OS) in Arlington, VA is seeking a data science intern who will contribute from day one on meaningful projects for national banks and fintechs. You’ll work closely with our senior data scientists and business analysts, applying modeling, data cleaning, and insights generation as you learn the trade on real-world datasets.

Qualifications

• On track to graduate December 2027 to August 2028.
• Pursuing a quantitative degree (data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering).
• Strong foundation in statistical concepts with ML exposure through coursework or projects.

You’ll apply advanced modeling techniques and business driven thinking to solve complex data challenges. Whether you're cleaning and strutting messy datasets, designing and testing algorithms, or generating insights to guide smarter decisions, you'll be collaborating closely with our experienced data scientists and business analysts every step of the way. At 2OS, AI is a natural part of the data science toolkit, and you'll have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues who are continually exploring new ways to apply to analytical and business challenges.

Basic Qualifications

If this sounds like you, we're already interested!

• You're on track to graduate between December 2027 and August 2028
• You're pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative field such as data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related discipline
• You have a strong foundation in statistical concepts, demonstrated through 200- level or higher coursework in stats (can be cross-listed in math or CS), and a working knowledge of machine learning techniquesthrough hands-on or academic exposure
• You have experience working with real-world data whether through coursework, research, or internships, and can extract meaningful insights from messy datasets
• You enjoy solving business problems just as much as building models and always seek to understand the "why" behind the data
• You're proficient in Python, and can efficiently code, analyze, and visualize data

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points)

While not required, the following will make your application stand out:

• Prior experience in a fast-paced, analytics-driven environments, such as internships, research, or intensive coursework
• Confidence in building models from the ground up, rather than replying solely on existing templates or notebooks
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into business- relevant insights for diverse audiences

Salary

The fixed starting pay for the summer internships is $100,000 (annualized) for candidates hired to work at our Arlington, VA location. Please note that interns are paid this annualized rate proportionally over the duration of the summer program. This rate reflects our standard compensation at the time of posting.
