Job summary

Two Sigma in New York City is offering a 10-week software engineering internship in our Soho office. You will be hired into a general Software Engineering role and matched to a specific team 2-3 months before you start, collaborating with engineers, quantitative researchers, and data scientists.

You will contribute to building scalable infrastructure, ensuring reliability of critical trading systems, and using open source and proprietary tools to test and deploy models, while gaining hands-on

Qualifications

• Coursework towards a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a technical or quantitative field.
• Experience with Java, C, C++, Python, Ruby, Perl, or other languages that target the JVM.
• Experience in large-scale systems.
• Exceptional programming skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Open-minded in search for critical thinkers who are passionate about technology; financial experience not required.

Responsibilities

• Building the underlying infrastructure used by multiple engineering teams (distributed storage, public/private cloud environments).
• Ensuring reliability of mission-critical products and systems (e.g., main trading system).
• Using open source and proprietary tools to build environments that test and deploy quantitative models.
• Building and maintaining low-latency, high-performance infrastructure for trade execution.
• Scaling infrastructure to ingest data from 10,000+ sources daily.
• Partnering with Corporate teams to develop tools and systems to increase productivity and efficiency.

We are seeking a diverse set of software engineering interns to join our team. With a group that includes a Unix Lifetime Achievement winner, Putnam medalists, ACM Programming competition finalists, and International Mathematics Olympiad medalists, you'll be in the company of ambitious high achievers with common goals and a love of learning.

The summer internship program lasts 10 weeks and takes place at our Soho-based New York City office. You will partner with an assigned mentor and work on a single project during the course of your time here, which culminates in a final presentation.

You'll have the chance to attend all Two Sigma events, from brown bag lunches to our ongoing series of guest speakers. We’ll host intern-specific social events to help you get to know other Two Sigma employees and explore all that surrounding New York City has to offer.

As a student, you will be hired into a general Software Engineering role and matched to a specific team 2-3 months before you start.

You Will Take On The Following Responsibilities

• Building the underlying infrastructure that virtually every other engineering team at Two Sigma uses, such as our distributed storage and public and private cloud environments.
• Ensuring the reliability of “mission critical” products and systems vital to Two Sigma, such as our main trading system.
• Using a suite of open source and proprietary tools to build the environments that test and deploy our quantitative strategies, also known as models.
• Building and maintaining the low-latency, high-performance infrastructure and systems responsible for executing trades.
• Building and scaling the infrastructure used to ingest data from 10,000+ sources daily.
• Partnering with our Corporate teams to develop tools, systems and products responsible for increasing productivity and efficiency across the organization.

You Should Possess The Following Qualifications

The weekly base pay for this role will be between $3,800/Week (Bachelors), $3,900/Week (Masters) and $4,200/Week (PhD) based on academic degree conferred. This role may also be eligible for other forms of compensation and/or benefits.
