Job summary

River Partners in Chico, CA is seeking a Data Science Intern to join a dynamic team and work on data-driven restoration projects. You will analyze data with cross-functional colleagues, apply statistical models and machine learning, and help design data pipelines for field and remote sensing data.

The role offers up to 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling and exposure to industry-standard tools such as Python, R, SQL, and ArcGIS. Compensation is $18.00–$20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in the Data Science and Analytics (MSDSA) Master’s program at Chico State.
• Strong analytical skills with a passion for solving real-world problems through data.
• Familiarity with data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, etc.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Coursework or experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, or data visualization is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze and interpret complex data.
• Apply statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and data visualization techniques to generate actionable insights.
• Contribute to various projects and assist in designing and optimizing data pipelines, including integrating remote sensing into restoration monitoring and analyzing field data across project sites.
• Develop scripts and dashboards to analyze monitoring data and provide insights into wildlife activity and vegetation patterns across restoration sites.
• Gain experience with industry-standard tools and software, including Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS, etc.
