Job summary

Data Science Intern, Algorithms (Summer 2027)

Lyft is seeking a Data Science Intern to join its team and contribute to the development of mathematical models that power the platform’s core services.

The role involves working on diverse problems in optimization, machine learning, and inference, with a focus on decision-making, feature engineering, and algorithmic policy evaluation.

The intern will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to frame problems, conduct exploratory data analysis, write production code, and design experiments.

Candidates must be pursuing a Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field, with a graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.

They should have strong coding skills in Python, experience with data science libraries like NumPy, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow, and expertise in one of the specialties: optimization, machine learning, or statistical modeling.

Prior experience in marketplace design or ridesharing is a plus.

The internship is based in San Francisco and requires in-office presence three days per week.

The expected hourly base pay range for this position in San Francisco is $58–$62 USD.
