Job summary

tastytrade is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Analytics team in Chicago. You will own data pipeline architecture, mentor teammates, and influence how we build our data platform.

You’ll collaborate with data scientists, engineers, analysts, and leadership to design scalable pipelines and deliver actionable insights. You will work with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Tableau, Python, and AWS, contributing to data quality, observability, and production-grade code.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of professional data engineering experience.
• Expert SQL skills and query optimization.
• Real dbt production experience.
• Python production-grade coding, not scripts.
• Hands-on Airflow experience (or Prefect/Dagster).
• Experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Knowledge of data product lifecycle and data quality.
• Ability to design systems and lead projects.
• Strong communication with engineers and non-engineers.
• Git/GitHub and CLI proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines with dbt, Python, Airflow, and Snowflake to support executive dashboards.
• Own pipeline architecture and performance; drive initiatives to improve the data platform.
• Make architectural decisions including schema design and tool selection.
• Own data quality and observability; build reliable data infrastructure.
• Write ELT code with modern practices and automated deployments.
• Debug production data issues as they arise.
• Process, clean, and validate data from diverse sources.
• Lead ad-hoc analyses to help teams understand product usage.
