Mondrian Alpha in New York is seeking an early data engineering hire to shape a greenfield data function within a lean, high-performing hedge fund. You will work directly with the lead, crafting architecture and tooling decisions from scratch, rather than following a pre-defined backlog.

Expect significant autonomy in a small, high-trust team, building ETL pipelines and internal APIs that scale with the business. This is a foundational role with real input into data infrastructure decisions.

Qualifications

• 2-7 years of software/data engineering experience
• Strong Python, ideally applied to building ETL pipelines, onboarding and integrating vendor data feeds, and building internal tooling/APIs
• Strong SQL (comfortable well beyond basic joins and indexing)
• Genuinely autonomous and opinionated, comfortable pushing back and thinking through problems out loud

Responsabilités

• Design and build a new data function from the ground up, working closely with the team lead
• Own technical decisions around data infrastructure, tooling, and architecture as the function scales
• Be a genuine thought partner, someone the lead can bounce ideas off of, not just execute assigned tasks
• Operate with significant autonomy in a small, high-trust team
