Job description

Are you an experienced Project Manager with a strong technical background and a track record of delivering complex data migration projects? Would you like to use your expertise to support the safe transfer of patient records and help shape the delivery of healthcare services across the UK? We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Migration Lead to join our Clinical Systems team at HCRG Care Group. As a leading provider of NHS and community healthcare services, we regularly welcome new services into our organisation and support the transition of existing services. This often involves migrating large volumes of sensitive patient information between clinical systems, making effective project management, data integrity and patient safety absolutely essential. Working closely with our Head of Clinical Systems, you'll take the lead on planning, coordinating and delivering data migration projects, ensuring that patient information is transferred safely, accurately and within agreed timescales. This is a predominantly remote role, offering the opportunity to work with a wide range of clinical systems, technical teams and healthcare professionals across the country. Very occasional UK travel, including overnight stays, may be required, with expenses covered., As our Data Migration Lead, you'll be responsible for managing the end-to-end delivery of data migration projects, working closely with internal teams, external organisations and system suppliers. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and coordinating data migration projects, developing detailed project plans, timelines and deliverables to ensure successful implementation.
  • Managing the safe transfer and transformation of patient records between Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems, ensuring data quality, accuracy and integrity throughout.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal programme teams, analytics teams, external healthcare organisations, technical specialists and EPR suppliers.
  • Coordinating data extraction, transformation, testing and migration activities, ensuring all parties understand their responsibilities and agreed deadlines.
  • Identifying, managing and escalating project risks, issues and dependencies, maintaining accurate project documentation, RAID logs and decision records.
  • Working closely with Information Governance and Clinical Safety colleagues to ensure data migrations meet appropriate regulatory, security and patient safety requirements.
  • Supporting data validation and testing activities, working alongside technical and database teams to ensure information is accurately transferred into destination systems.
  • Providing regular project updates, progress reports and presentations to programme boards and senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting the planning of new healthcare service mobilisations, providing technical input and advice on data migration requirements, timescales and potential challenges.
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of migration processes, documentation and project delivery approaches across the organisation.

You'll be a key point of contact throughout the migration process, bringing together different teams and organisations to ensure projects progress smoothly, even when working to challenging deadlines.

We're looking for an experienced and highly organised technical Project Manager who combines strong project delivery skills with a good understanding of data management and migration processes. You'll be confident managing complex projects, engaging with stakeholders at all levels and translating technical information into clear, practical plans.

  • A recognised Project Management qualification or extensive project management experience (minimum five years), ideally within healthcare, technology or large-scale data migration projects.
  • A technical qualification or at least two years' relevant experience in data management, SQL Server, database engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Proven experience of managing complex projects involving the movement, migration or transformation of data between systems.
  • A strong understanding of project management methodologies and experience working across different delivery approaches.
  • Good knowledge of data structures, healthcare datasets and relevant clinical coding standards, including SNOMED CT.
  • A sound understanding of information governance, data protection and the management of sensitive or special category information.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver against tight deadlines.
  • A commitment to continued professional development and keeping technical knowledge up to date.
It would also be advantageous if you have:
  • Experience working with healthcare information systems or Electronic Patient Record systems, particularly TPP SystmOne or EMIS Web.
  • A background in health informatics, clinical systems implementation or healthcare service transformation.
  • Business analysis experience or a relevant qualification.
  • Knowledge of software development and delivery principles.
  • Previous leadership or management experience.
  • An Agile Project Management qualification.

While experience within healthcare would be particularly valuable, we also welcome applications from candidates in other sectors who can demonstrate strong technical project management experience and relevant transferable skills. Above all, we're looking for someone who can take ownership of complex projects, build effective relationships and bring people together to deliver successful outcomes.
