Texas Department of Transportation is offering a Data Management Intern position at the Austin Stassney Campus. The role focuses on data management, analysis, reporting, documentation, and AI/ML support to turn data into practical insights for better decision making across the agency.

The internship is paid, with preference for students in information science, data science, economics, or related programs; reporting is required in person at the Stassney Campus and hours vary by semester

• Conduct data cleaning, preprocessing, and exploratory data analysis to support model development and improvement.
• Process data and analytics requests for the organization, including requests to support existing data analytics reports and dashboards maintained by the data management team.
• Assist with data exploration efforts for the data analytics team.
• Assist in drafting and reviewing program documents such as business requirements, technical specification documents and schedule amendments, training presentations, and other documents as directed.
• Assist with other Data Management activities as appropriate.

Position Information

TxDOT's enterprise Data Management team is looking for a curious, motivated Data Management Intern who wants to see how data, analytics, and emerging technology support real public service. This internship offers hands-on experience working with TxDOT data, supporting data reporting efforts, exploring data quality and AI/ML concepts, and helping the team turn information into practical insights that improve decision-making across the agency. In this role, you will have the opportunity to build technical skills, learn from experienced data professionals, and contribute to projects that help TxDOT better serve Texans.

Preference will be given to students enrolled in an Information Science, Data Science, Economics, or similar program at any level. This is a paid summer internship for the summer that may be extended into the fall on a part-time basis.

The chosen candidate must be able to report in person to our Austin Stassney Campus for the duration of their internship.

Performs entry-level administrative and technical support work for the Information Technology Division at the Austin Stassney Campus. Work involves assisting with data management, data analysis, reporting, documentation, and AI/ML support activities using standard office and technology equipment, including a computer or laptop, Microsoft Office applications, collaboration tools, database or data analytics platforms, and other TxDOT-approved systems. The position may assist with reviewing and organizing datasets, preparing or updating program documents, supporting analytics and dashboard requests, documenting business or technical requirements, and coordinating with ITD staff on assigned data management activities. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.

Other Conditions:

Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.

Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to students enrolled in an Information Science, Data Science, Economics, or similar program at any level.

Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes
