The New York Times Company is seeking an experienced assistant editor for the Data Journalism team in New York City. You will help run a group of data reporters who collaborate across the newsroom and advise on analyses conducted elsewhere.

This role requires a detail-oriented leader who can drive rigorous data storytelling, manage deadlines, and mentor colleagues to develop their talents. Regular in-office presence four days a week is expected in NYC with a preference for Washington, DC as

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data journalism experience.
• Proficiency with Python and/or R, spreadsheets and relational databases.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Data Journalism team and supervise data reporters.
• Shape and stress-test the team's data analyses.
• Advise on analyses conducted across the newsroom.
• Collaborate with other desks and communicate findings clearly.
• Support independent journalism and uphold rigorous standards.
