Title: Data Governance Lead (Remote)

Compensation: $80- $100/hr.
We have partnered with our client in their search for a Data Governance Lead. The Data Governance Lead will spearhead the development of a comprehensive Enterprise Data Governance Program. This individual will be responsible for conducting a data governance maturity assessment, defining a future state vision, and creating a roadmap to guide the organization toward effective data governance practices. The role requires strategic thinking, organizational design expertise, and a strong understanding of data governance frameworks to successfully deliver high-impact outcomes that align with organizational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Maturity Assessment: Conduct a data governance maturity assessment using an industry-recognized framework (e.g., Gartner, IBM) and deliver a comprehensive document outlining the current state of enterprise data governance.
- Future State Vision: Define the future state of data governance maturity aligned with the organization’s strategic goals, including recommended metrics and KPIs to measure progress.
- Organizational Structure Design: Develop a recommended organizational structure for data governance, including roles, responsibilities, and resource requirements. Provide detailed role descriptions, an organization chart, and investment recommendations.
- Policy and Process Development: Identify existing policies and processes that need modification and draft new policies and processes to achieve the desired future state. Provide a detailed listing with updates and drafts.
- Technology and Tools Evaluation: Assess current systems and tools to automate and enforce data-related policies and processes. Recommend additional tools or changes, including estimated procurement, implementation, and ongoing costs.
- Execution Plan: Develop a detailed, actionable plan to transition from the current state to the future state, including a list of activities, assigned roles, effort estimates, dependencies, timelines, and training plans for personnel.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with the CIO and other key stakeholders to pitch the project proposal to executive leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Documentation and Reporting: Create executive-ready documentation, including reports, presentations, and analysis summaries, to support decision-making and secure leadership buy-in.
Skills Required
- Data Governance Expertise: In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, Gartner, IBM).
- Strategic Visioning: Ability to define and articulate a future state vision with clear metrics and KPIs.
- Organizational Design: Expertise in creating governance structures, including role definitions and resource planning.
- Policy and Process Development: Proven ability to develop and modify data-related policies and processes.
- Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with data management tools, metadata management systems, data quality tools, and master data management (MDM) platforms.
- Project Management: Strong skills in creating roadmaps, managing dependencies, resource allocation, and executing plans effectively.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving: Proficiency in conducting gap analyses and crafting actionable recommendations.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management: Exceptional ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Adaptability: Experience working in fast-paced environments with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in data governance, enterprise data management, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience conducting data governance maturity assessments and defining future state visions.
- Proven track record of working with C-suite executives and other senior stakeholders.
- Certification in data governance or data management frameworks (e.g., CDMP, DGSP) is highly desirable.
- Prior experience in enterprise-scale organizations with complex data landscapes.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
- Ability to create executive-ready documents, including maturity assessments, organizational charts, and project plans.
- Skilled in developing presentations and reports that succinctly convey the business case for data governance initiatives.
- Experience delivering pitches to executive leadership to secure buy-in.
- Proven track record of driving initiatives from concept to execution.
