Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle seeks a Data Governance Specialist III to design, implement, and operate the enterprise data governance program within Information Security. The role protects sensitive clinical, research, and operational data in compliance with HIPAA and institutional policy.

The position collaborates with the OCDO, Privacy, and Legal teams, balancing technical depth with policy fluency across research and clinical units. Some on-campus work is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, data science, or related field.
• 9+ years in data analytics, governance, privacy, or security; Masters can substitute for 2 years.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the enterprise data classification and handling program, including policies, standards, and data inventories.
• Develop data lifecycle management processes: ownership, lineage, retention, de-identification, secondary use.
• Partner with OCDO, Privacy, and Legal to apply policies across systems, cloud services, and platforms.
• Provide governance guidance on projects with data collection, analytics, and AI/ML, including IRB considerations.
• Assess data-related risks; support audits and remediation.
• Maintain data protection tech (DLP, DSPM, classification tools); document data flows and third-party obligations.
• Deliver awareness training and mentor governance practices.
