Job summary

Howard University College of Medicine seeks a Data Governance Manager to lead the university's enterprise data governance program. You will define data standards, ownership, and quality rules while partnering with data owners, stewards, and IT teams to ensure accurate, secure, and well-defined data across academic and administrative functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
• Five years of data management or governance experience in higher education preferred.
• Strong knowledge of FERPA, data privacy, security, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise data governance framework, policies, standards, and procedures.
• Establish data ownership and stewardship roles across academic and administrative domains.
• Lead development of institutional data dictionary, business glossary, metadata, data definitions, and data standards.
• Collaborate with offices and technical teams to define consistent definitions, rules, and source-of-truth systems.
• Monitor data quality, validation, issue remediation, and lineage documentation.
• Facilitate cross-functional data governance groups and resolve conflicting definitions and ownership.
• Ensure data access controls, privacy, retention, and security compliance across systems.
• Support regulatory reporting, executive analytics, and forecasting with governance data.
