Job summary

TEGNA Inc. is seeking a Data Enterprise Reporter to transform raw data into compelling, audience-friendly journalism. You will report, analyze, and visualize data, write stories, produce explainers and videos, and appear on camera.

The role emphasizes accountability-driven reporting and collaboration across national content, product, and local teams. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in data-led journalism, strong storytelling across platforms, and experience with SQL, Python, or R.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience as a news reporter with data-driven or investigative work.
• Strong writing and reporting skills across platforms.
• Experience working with data using spreadsheets and SQL, Python, or R.
• Solid statistical literacy and ability to explain findings clearly.
• Familiarity with public records and FOIA.
• Collaborative mindset and comfort working across teams.

Responsibilities

• Report and write stories independently and with other reporters.
• Collect, clean, analyze, and visualize datasets to surface meaningful trends and insights.
• Publish quick-turn explainers and enterprise or investigative reporting.
• Join anchors for conversational, on-camera segments about your reporting.
• Pitch data-driven stories that are compelling, relevant, and accountability-focused.
• Identify and pursue stories with real-world impact.
• Translate complex data findings into clear journalism.
• Use AI-assisted tools to support data reporting.
• Work with Special Projects Producers to validate findings and ensure accuracy.
• Localize enterprise data stories with local newsrooms.
• Support data-driven storytelling with the Product team.
