Job summary

TEGNA Inc. seeks a Special Projects Producer in a hybrid Denver role to source, analyze, and verify data-driven stories. You will interview experts, write scripts for broadcast and online articles, and edit interviews with B-roll for multiple platforms. Collaboration with national and local teams is essential.

You will lead data-driven investigations, surface story ideas, and ensure accuracy and depth across breaking and enterprise reporting.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years experience in data analysis, research, investigative journalism, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years experience in broadcast news line or segment producing and video editing.
  • Experience in a local or national newsroom is preferred.
  • Experience using spreadsheets, Flourish, Tableau, Canva, SQL, and/or Python or R.
  • Experience using AI tools to support data research and analysis.
  • Familiarity with public records requests and government data.
  • Strong research, verification, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to reporters and partners.

TEGNA, the parent company of 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, is hiring a Special Projects Producer who finds stories in data and can make the data easy to understand. The ideal candidate has investigative producing and data research experience. This position combines data analysis, research, and verification with traditional show producing skills, serving as a critical role in ensuring accuracy, depth, and credibility.

In this role you will acquire, analyze, and validate information that powers data-driven reporting. You will conduct interviews with experts, write broadcast/streaming news scripts and online articles, and edit interviews with B-roll. You will work closely with Consumer, Health, and Investigative reporters to surface story ideas, provide evidence, and strengthen both breaking news and enterprise reporting.

This is a highly collaborative position working with national content, product, and growth teams, as well as local reporters and producers. One day you may be leading a consumer-focused project and the next you may be working with the national content team on breaking or trending health news.

The preferred work location is Denver, but candidates in any TEGNA market will be considered. This is a hybrid role.

  • Translate analytical findings into clear summaries for reporters and partners.
  • Support collaboration with contributing reporters and local market teams.
  • Work with outside experts when additional validation or context is needed.
Salary Range

$70,000 - $80,000

Qualifications
