Job summary

Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area is seeking a full-time Data Engineering Intern to help build and maintain Big Data ecosystems, learn scalable architectures, and contribute to data pipelines.

You will gain hands-on experience with SQL, Python or R, SSIS, Airflow and PowerBI, while collaborating with a team on design, code, test, and deployment throughout the software life cycle.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in a computing or engineering field with strong academics.
• GPA >= 3.0 as a general rule; higher GPA favored.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience or coursework with SQL, Python or R.

Responsibilities

• Support development and maintenance of data pipelines in a team.
• Assist with designing scalable data architectures and solving data problems.
• Exposure to PowerBI or similar visualization tools while learning.
• Contribute to SDLC activities: design, code, test, and deploy.

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Data Engineering Intern at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for performing aspects of data engineering and will learn to maintain and enhance Big Data Ecosystems.

Essential Functions

• Understand foundational concepts of data development and operational procedures
• Understand production and operations issues as they relate to engineering
• Work with team to develop scalable, extensible solution architectures leveraging big-data technologies
• Exposure to PowerBI or other data visualization tool
• Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
• Exposure to Airflow
• Participate in design, code, test, maintenance, enhance and decommission phases throughout software life cycle to contribute technical expertise and to identify issues
• Assist team to develop reliable solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity

Basic Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software or other related field
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Relevant experience and/or training in languages such as SQL, Python or R

Desired Qualifications

• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
• Previous experience working in a team environment
