Seamless Migration is seeking a career and customer-oriented Data Engineer, to join our team in Mclean, VA.

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to assist with strategic planning and oversee the implementation of a cloud-based data environment for a government Sponsor. This role supports intelligence analysts by managing large datasets, enabling advanced methodologies, and delivering impactful data visualizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of a cloud-based data ecosystem supporting data transportation, storage, ETL, and dissemination.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and system stakeholders to ensure data solutions align with operational needs.
  • Map data sources and define access controls within the cloud environment.
  • Design and implement data models, codebases, and technical documentation aligned with Sponsor standards.
  • Administer systems and provide programming support for ETL processes and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer and training on technologies and procedures related to the ETL process and high-capacity compute clusters.
  • Coordinate with external data/platform providers for system integration and enhancements.
  • Support data acquisition and integration across domains, enabling seamless data transfer and management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience serving as a technical liaison among system engineers, data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with AWS cloud services, including long-term storage and platforms such as Databricks or Elastic MapReduce (EMR).
  • Strong understanding of SQL database structures and experience mapping between SQL databases.
  • Background in large-scale data migration projects.
  • Expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, and design methodologies. Familiarity with Glue, Hive, and Iceberg is preferred.
  • Programming experience with Python, Bash, and Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with DevSecOps practices and tools.
  • Skilled in implementing CI/CD pipelines using industry-standard practices.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Familiarity with the Sponsor’s specific data environment and on-premises compute architecture.
  • Knowledge of Data Quality and Data Governance principles.
  • Experience enhancing ETL processes using Apache NiFi and similar tools.
  • Background working with Apache Spark.
