Job description

Job ID: 2979099 | Amazon.com Services LLC

Amazon’s global fulfillment network enables any merchant to ship items that are ordered on Amazon to any place on earth. There is a complex network of ways in which items move between vendor locations, Amazon warehouses, and customer locations as well as several intermediate locations through which packages travel before reaching the customer. With a scale of millions of packages, each with different attributes and delivery requirements, what results is a highly dense graph of nodes.

We have built a highly respected BI and Data Engineering team which is focused on solving complex problems in worldwide transportation using workflows, optimization algorithms, and machine learning systems. These are large-scale distributed systems handling millions of packages being shipped through the Amazon logistics network.

As an experienced Data Engineer, you will own expanding and building a new cutting edge data architecture which will fuel the exponentially growing Amazon Shipping business world wide. You will identify gaps in the current architecture, and data and help bridge them. You will also help improve the overall data quality in the organization by identifying improvement opportunities in existing data alarming capabilities and anomaly tracking processes in the org. Additionally, you will collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to understand data needs and ensure effective use of tools and insights. You will also be responsible for mentoring other L4 DEs in the org.

Key job responsibilities
Modern Data Architecture: Design and evolve cloud-native data platforms, including SWA’s Data Lakehouse architecture, integrating Redshift, Lake Formation, and Glue to enable both batch and near real-time analytics.

Smart Data Integration: Build resilient, scalable pipelines that unify fragmented data sources into governed, domain-aligned datasets. Implement data contracts, observability, and schema evolution to ensure trust and reusability.

Automated DataOps: Drive automation across the data lifecycle—pipelines, quality checks, lineage tracking, and anomaly detection—using tools like AWS CDK, Airflow, Deequ, and Quicksight APIs.

Insight Acceleration: Partner with science and analytics teams to enable ML-ready datasets and advanced diagnostics. Build frameworks that accelerate experimentation, forecasting, and optimization models.

Strategic Data Partnership: Embed with Product, Tech, Ops, and Finance stakeholders to translate business objectives into data products and insights. Influence roadmaps through data-led storytelling.

Tech Leadership & Evangelism: Evaluate emerging AWS and open-source technologies, champion best practices, and contribute to defining data standards across Amazon Shipping.

Mentorship & Uplift: Uplevel the org by coaching BIEs, DEs, and PMs on scalable data design, performance tuning, and solutioning. Foster a culture of experimentation, ownership, and continuous learning.
