Job summary

Jobtailor in Connecticut seeks a seasoned Data Engineer to build and operationalize complex data solutions, architect data products, and ensure governance and quality across environments.

You will design data solutions, analyze sources for value, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to educate users on data products and analytic environments. Strong communication and leadership are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • 3+ years in a data engineer role with IT/engineering background.
  • 2+ years hands-on ETL with Python or PySpark.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Experience developing generative AI apps and LLMs.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Leadership – intermediate with self-motivation.
  • Must have: 2 additional years software/data engineering.

  • Build and operationalize complex data solutions, correct problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing/quality solutions.
  • Design data solutions.
  • Analyze sources to determine value and recommend data to include in analytical processes.
  • Incorporate core data management competencies including data governance, data security and data quality.
  • Collaborate within and across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products/analytic environment.
  • Perform data and system analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of moderate complexity and correct as appropriate.
  • Test data movement, transformation code, and data components.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • 3+ years in a data engineer role, with additional time spent working in the IT industry or an engineering related field, adding up to 7+ years.
  • 2+ years of hands‑on ETL experience with Python or PySpark
  • Experience working with Cloud platform (AWS, Azure, Google, etc. – preferable AWS) and Cloud platform services. (Example of AWS core services: S3, IAM, lambda, Secret Manager, EC2.)
  • Experience developing generative AI applications and large language models or equivalent technologies.
  • Proficient use of tools, techniques, and manipulation including Cloud platforms, programming languages, and an understanding of software engineering practices.
  • The ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, decompose work assignments into small batch releases, and contribute to trade‑off and negotiation discussions.
  • Demonstrated track record of domain expertise including the ability to understand technical concepts and possess in‑depth knowledge of immediate systems worked on.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills including debugging skills, allowing you to determine source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems and the ability to recognize and solve repetitive problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with team members and business partners.
  • Leadership – Intermediate leadership skills with a proven track record of self‑motivation in identifying personal growth opportunities.
  • Must have: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience. 2 additional years of software/data engineering experience.
