Job summary

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine IT, seeks a data engineer to build and support data pipelines, data models, and Power BI assets using SQL Server and Azure platforms. You will ensure data quality and enable reliable reporting across clinical and research domains.

You will collaborate on lakehouse architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold), implement DAX measures, and optimize queries, with opportunities to grow in a university setting emphasizing health and education

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, CIS, or closely related field; or a BA with one year of relevant experience.
• Associate’s degree in IT/Networking with two years of experience; journey level requires one additional year; advanced level two more years.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL Server queries, views, functions, and stored procedures for operations and reporting.
• Perform data validation and quality checks across source, transformation, and curated data layers.
• Assist with ETL processes using Informatica (IICS), SSIS, or comparable tools.
• Support integration of data from multiple sources into SQL Server environments.
• Develop and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models; manage data refresh processes.
