Job summary

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Data Engineer for a temporary role in the School of Medicine Information Technology department. You will support data integration, data modeling, and business intelligence work, building reliable data pipelines and curated data layers using SQL Server and Azure platforms such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure Databricks.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and experience.
Experience building reliable data pipelines and BI solutions.
Strong SQL Server knowledge including queries, views, functions, and stored procedures.
ETL development using Informatica IICS, SSIS, or equivalent tools.
Data quality validation across source, transformation, and curated layers.
Experience creating Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL Server queries, views, functions, and stored procedures for operational and reporting needs.
Validate, reconcile, and quality-check data across source, transformation, and curated layers.
Build ETL processes using Informatica IICS, SSIS, or comparable tools.
Integrate data from multiple source systems into SQL Server environments.
Create and support Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and data refresh processes.
Document source-to-target mappings, pipelines, transformation logic, and semantic models.
