Job summary

Trupanion, Inc. is seeking a Data Engineer to design and optimize scalable data systems on a Databricks Lakehouse on Azure. You will build data marts, ensure data quality, and collaborate with analytics and data science teams.

The role opens across the U.S. with a Seattle preference and a hybrid schedule (office at least 3 days/week). This position emphasizes data governance, continuous delivery, and automation in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 2+ years designing and extending high-performance pipelines and data marts.
• Experience in a Databricks-centric environment with Delta Lake, Spark, and Unity Catalog.
• Proven data quality, testing, and monitoring frameworks for data integrity.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control.

Responsibilities

• Ensure continuous, accurate data availability by monitoring and optimizing batch and real-time pipelines across the Medallion architecture.
• Deliver query-ready Gold-layer data marts and dimensional models with analytics and data science teams.
• Configure automated validation gates at ingestion to catch and block bad data.
• Maintain automated data quality tests and expectations across transformations.
• Document schemas, metadata, and data assets for discoverability.
• Collaborate autonomously with downstream teams to resolve data discrepancies.
