Job summary

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience with Microsoft Azure data and integration technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, Fabric, Logic Apps, Functions, or related cloud data services.
• Knowledge of data engineering principles, data governance, data lineage, and secure data handling practices.
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical data designs and mappings.

Tarrant County College is seeking a Data Engineer to help engineer and support enterprise data solutions across the College’s Ellucian Banner SaaS environment and connected enterprise data ecosystem. The role focuses on dependable, secure, and scalable access to institutional data that supports reporting, analytics, regulatory compliance, and day-to-day operational decisions. This position works under the supervision of the assigned department leader and contributes to the College’s mission, values, goals, and principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for enterprise data engineering initiatives, including designing, developing, implementing, operating, monitoring, and supporting enterprise data pipelines and integrations for the Ellucian Banner SaaS environment and related internal or third-party applications.
• Partner with project teams, ERP functional analysts, integration architects, reporting teams, and business stakeholders to define business and technical requirements; translate requirements into scalable data solutions; and communicate solution approaches, technical impacts, risks, and implementation recommendations.
• Design and support batch, event-driven, and API-enabled data movement patterns between Banner SaaS, cloud data platforms, integration platforms, reporting systems, and third-party applications.
• Develop and maintain data models, data structures, data mappings, metadata, and technical documentation to support reporting, analytics, integrations, conversions, and operational processes.
• Implement data quality controls, reconciliation processes, exception handling, and monitoring to maintain data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and reliability.
• Lead resolution of complex production data issues, including pipeline failures, integration errors, and post-deployment performance problems, performing root cause analysis and coordinating corrective actions with internal teams, vendors, and implementation partners.
• Create and maintain design documentation and operational materials such as data flow diagrams, support procedures, runbooks, and project or architecture review materials to support knowledge transfer, audit readiness, and operational continuity.
• Act as a data steward to support data governance practices, including data lineage, metadata management, data definitions, access controls, retention considerations, and compliance-related documentation.
• Coordinate with Identity and Access Management, Information Security, database administration, cloud services, and infrastructure teams to ensure secure and compliant data access and data movement.
• Monitor emerging technologies, Banner SaaS data capabilities, cloud data services, and industry best practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and long-term sustainability.
• Participate on the College’s behalf in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support essential performance requirements.
• Attend the workplace regularly, report to work punctually, and follow the work schedule to meet site demands.
• Complete required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC).
• Perform other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least one (1) year of experience supporting Ellucian Banner, higher education ERP systems, or SaaS-based enterprise applications.
• At least one (1) year of experience developing or supporting data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, data integrations, or data services in a cloud environment.
• At least one (1) year of experience with SQL, relational databases, data modeling, data warehousing, or enterprise reporting and analytics platforms.
• At least one (1) year of experience with Microsoft Azure data and integration technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse, Fabric, Logic Apps, Functions, or related cloud data services.
• At least one (1) year of experience with APIs, JSON, XML, delimited files, secure file exchange, data transformation, and data validation techniques.
• Knowledge of data engineering principles and technologies, including ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, monitoring, and operational support.
• Knowledge of relational databases, SQL development, data modeling, metadata management, data warehousing, lakehouse concepts, and enterprise reporting dependencies.
• Knowledge of SaaS application data patterns, ERP data structures, integration methods, APIs, secure data exchange, and cloud-based data architecture concepts.
• Knowledge of data quality, data governance, data lineage, access controls, privacy, compliance, and secure data handling practices.
• Skilled in designing, developing, testing, documenting, and supporting reliable data pipelines and reusable data services.
