Job summary

CarShield is seeking a mid-level SQL Server Data Engineer to manage data at scale from on-site St. Peters, MO. You’ll design databases, optimize queries, and collaborate with engineers and data scientists to improve data flow from collection to reporting.

The role requires a strong SQL background, knowledge of database internals, and 2+ years of ETL/ELT experience. C# or Python and BI tooling are preferred, with a drive to learn and perform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years as a SQL Server Data Engineer.
• Strong SQL, database architecture, and normalization knowledge.
• Understanding of database engine internals including buffer pool, parallelism, execution plans, and indexing.
• At least 2 years building, operating, and monitoring ETL/ELT data pipelines.
• Experience with C# or Python preferred.
• 2+ years using BI tools preferred.
• Positive attitude with a strong drive to learn and perform.

Responsibilities

• Design new databases, improve existing structures, and write SQL and T-SQL stored procedures.
• Troubleshoot tickets, document issues, and implement effective solutions.
• Optimize slow queries through rewriting, indexing, and design improvements.
• Partner with Software Engineers and Data Scientists to strengthen data flow from collection to reporting.
• Gather stakeholder requirements, document them, and implement them.
• Monitor databases and respond when systems fail.
• Continue building the skills needed to succeed in the role.
• Bring a positive, can-do mindset to the team.

• We require someone who can work fully on-site in St. Peters, Missouri, five days per week.
• We are looking for a bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent practical experience.
• We need at least 4 years of experience as a SQL Server Data Engineer.
• We expect a strong command of SQL, database architecture, and normalization principles.
• We value a solid understanding of database engine internals, including buffer pool behavior, parallelism, execution plans, and indexing.
• We require at least 2 years of experience building, operating, and monitoring ETL or ELT data pipelines.
• We prefer candidates with experience in C# or Python.
• We prefer candidates with at least 2 years of experience using business intelligence tools.
• We are looking for someone with a positive attitude and a strong drive to learn and perform well.
