Job summary

Bloom Healthcare is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines and infrastructure powering the business. The role is hands-on, focusing on end-to-end data systems rather than single scripts.

You will own orchestration, integrations, and modeling with a strong emphasis on data quality and reliability, collaborating with business stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in math, biostatistics, engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of data engineering experience building scalable pipelines and data products.
• Strong Python and SQL proficiency.
• Experience building and consuming APIs.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow/Dagster).
• Experience building and maintaining dbt models or similar tooling.
• Experience with AI/ML models and data retrieval/cleaning.
• Ability to translate data needs to scalable technical solutions.
• Authorized to work in the United States full-time.

About the Role

Bloom Healthcare is looking for a Data Engineer to build, manage, and maintain the pipelines and data infrastructure that power our business. You'll work across orchestration, integrations, and modeling, owning systems end to end rather than just writing one-off scripts. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes solving real business problems with clean, reliable data engineering.

What You'll Do

• Orchestration: Build, manage, and maintain data workflows in Apache Airflow, ensuring pipelines run reliably, are well-monitored, and recover gracefully from failures.
• Integrations & Automation: Design and build integrations between internal systems and external services (APIs, vendors, partners) and develop process automations that reduce manual work across teams.
• Data Modeling: Build and maintain dbt models and our semantic layer, creating clean, well-documented, and trustworthy datasets that the business can rely on for reporting and analysis.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to understand data needs and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Monitor data quality and pipeline health, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve reliability and performance.
• Document data models, pipelines, and integrations so systems are maintainable and understandable by the wider team.

What You'll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, biostatistics, engineering or a related field; Master’s preferred.
• 3+ years of industry experience in data engineering building scalable data pipelines and data products.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL (required).
• Hands-on experience building and consuming APIs.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, Dagster).
• Experience building and maintaining dbt models, or similar transformation/modeling frameworks.
• Experience building advanced analytics and AI or ML models, including tools leveraging LLMs or agentic AI such as data retrieval and cleaning, modeling, accuracy evaluation or testing, and visualization
• Functional understanding of how to leverage AI and automation in data engineering such as building self-service tools, intelligent pipelines, and agents that automate repetitive tasks.
• Comfort working directly with business stakeholders to scope and deliver data solutions.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with attention to data quality and reliability.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Bloom Healthcare is unable to provide current or future employment visa sponsorship for this position.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Power BI or similar BI/visualization tools.
• Exposure to machine learning models (e.g., supporting ML pipelines, feature engineering, or model integration).
• Healthcare industry experience, especially with healthcare data or systems; knowledge in data standards such as HL7, FHIR, CCD, CCR and claims data.

Compensation and Benefits

Bloom Healthcare offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience, including:

• Base salary range: $120,000 – $155,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
