Job summary

Well is seeking an experienced data engineer to help build data pipelines and data tooling. You will create new services, interfaces and data infrastructure to support ingestion, monitoring and integration of large data volumes in a scalable data lake.

Work with engineers, DevOps and data scientists to deliver a seamless experience for data stakeholders, while upholding security and HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering software using Node.js, Python, SQL and Terraform.
• 3+ years of software development with cloud providers (AWS and/or GCP).
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, trade-offs and systems design.
• Proficient in testing, microservices and big data patterns.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and implementation of scalable ETL processes across AWS, GCP and BigQuery.
• Configure, maintain, and extend core data platform and internal tools.
• Monitor ETL processes and respond to data processing events and errors.
• Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps and data scientists to deliver data services.
• Lead code reviews, ensure quality and production monitoring.
• Protect security and HIPAA compliance for all data and systems.

Salary: This role can be hired for at either the Data Engineer 1 ($115,000-$135,000) or Data Engineer 2 ($125,000-$145,000), depending on qualifications, plus bonus potential and benefits

Position Summary:

Well is seeking an experienced and self‑motivated data engineer to help build the next generation of our data pipelines and data tooling. You will be creating new services, interfaces, data pipelines and cloud infrastructure to support the transfer, ingestion, monitoring and integration of large amounts of data: thousands of files, millions of events, and billions of rows in our data lake. Responsibilities:

Contribute to the design and implementation of a robust ETL process, managing file ingestion from external parties to AWS, GCP, and BigQuery with a focus on scalability and reliability.

Configure, maintain, and extend core data platform and internal data administration tools.

Monitor ETL processes with internal and external partners, and respond to events and/or data processing errors.

Collaborate with a team of experienced software engineers, DevOps engineers and data scientists to create and deliver a seamless, tailored experience for data team stakeholders.

Achieve operational excellence in software development by participating in and leading code reviews, quality assurance, and production monitoring

Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines

Requirements

Experience in delivery of software utilizing Node.js, Python, SQL, and Terraform

3+ years of software development experience using cloud providers (AWS and/or GCP)

Good understanding of general engineering principles, trade-offs, and systems design

Robust coding abilities and demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challenges

Experience with test driven development, an understanding of microservices and big data patterns with insight into choices and tradeoffs involved

Degree and/or background in a related field such as Computer Science, Engineering or a quantitative discipline with strong demonstrated practical experience

Willingness to learn new patterns, languages, technologies and methodologies, aligning both with our Engineering culture and continuously evolving technology environment

Experience working with healthcare data such as insurance claims, electronic health records, and wearables a plus
